Integrating climate change into your youth travel messaging
Friday, 21 March | 10:40 – 11:20
A study of Canadian youth found that climate change is a significant concern which has impacted their overall mental health and potentially has them rethinking travel plans. Given that International Experience Canada (IEC) is inherently a carbon-heavy program due to its reliance on air travel for virtually all participants, climate anxiety may become an increasingly significant perceived barrier to program use.
IEC has explored ways to adjust its messaging to be more climate-conscious, and to promote longer-term stays that would contribute to minimizing the impact of that carbon footprint – all while encouraging increased understanding of other cultures.
